Sproud (www.besproud.com), the Sweden-born company behind a range of pea-based milk products, announces that it has been re-verified according to ISO 26000, an international standard focusing on corporate social responsibility (CSR). When Sproud first achieved the certification in 2023, it was the first food company to be granted the standard, and with this re-verification, it remains the only food brand in the EU to have a verified ISO 26000 status.
Sproud CEO Sara Berger comments: “We are proud to, once again, have our sustainability efforts verified and to lead the way in the food industry. Our climate footprint is already extremely low, and over the last few months, we have lowered our average product climate footprint by an additional 10% compared to last year. Our footprint is 78,48% lower than cow’s milk*, and we are constantly working to drive this down across our entire value chain.”
Key to Sproud’s comparatively low CO2 footprint is the 100% plant-based ingredients, including yellow split peas, which require much less land and water than, for example, oat, soy and nut-based products.
Sproud’s ISO 26000 verification was accredited by a third-party auditor, VERIFY, and based on a review of Sproud’s sustainability action to date and future goals. Highlights from last year’s sustainability progress include developing a furthered social impact agenda and continuing work with CarbonCloud, a platform that calculates the climate impact of products from field to store. Sproud also transitioned to 88% plant-based packaging and opened a joint distribution hub in Poland to increase efficiency, reduce emissions and better serve Eastern and Southern Europe.
“This year’s results show that responsible and sustainable practices can go hand-in-hand with business success. It’s about offering climate-friendly products and helping consumers make good choices.” Sara Berger, Sproud CEO.
