The twice-yearly appointment with TUTTOFOOD is approaching: here are some of the upcoming scenarios and trends in the food and beverage sector that will animate the 2023 edition, an event dense with opportunities for agricultural and food companies from all over the world.
The aftermath of the 2022 inflationary strains that are also affecting the beginning of this year will inevitably weigh on consumers’ wallets, but trends do not seem to confirm the saying that “if you earn less, you eat worse”. In many countries, including some advanced economies, the groups of consumers who need to keep spending in check will broaden, despite the fact that in many food-sensitive markets, such as Italy, quality is not being foregone. The Made in Italy agricultural and food industry is thriving: it is worth more than 540 billion euro and represents approximately 25% of the Italian GDP according to Istat data. But that doesn’t mean there is not an opening to innovation: just a few weeks ago there was news of the success in Milan of the first hamburger made with cricket flour.
Leading producers: the green and sustainable future
From niche products to sustainable seafood, from new horizons in pasta to “green” preserved fruits. True innovation, now more than ever, must be sustainable to be considered as such. Manufacturers know this well: now not only large multinationals, but also small and medium-sized companies understand and implement principles of corporate social responsibility. Starting with some of the companies that will be present at TUTTOFOOD with their products. For fresh pasta, the trend is to focus on the purity of fillings with mono-ingredients, for a “clean” taste, with raw materials processed the same day, and no preservatives or lactose. (…)
Sustainability and combating food waste: the role of TUTTOFOOD
The issue of “no waste” closely affects production realities and consumers, and the data collected by TUTTOFOOD, following the meeting with Maurizio Martina, FAO Deputy Director-General, shows an alarming reality: to date, food waste could feed more than 1.26 billion people a year. Enough food is actually produced to feed the entire planet, but there is a need for improved management of natural resources to be implemented through major integration work, i.e., strengthening cooperation among supply chain stakeholders (manufacturers, suppliers, and distribution) to optimize production and supply planning, especially when looking at the goals of the 2030 Agenda. For, it is good to remember, when food is wasted, the resources used to produce it are also wasted.
TUTTOFOOD is the international and innovative platform for the entire food and beverage sector, and brings together the food & beverage and retail elite at fieramilano every two years.
TUTTOFOOD 2023 will take place at Fieramilano from May 8th-11th, 2023.
