The values of Gunz’s family business for fair trade, common good, human dignity, climate protection, solidarity and justice are the motivation when it comes to FAIRTRADE. Since 2017 they are partner of FAIRTRADE and since the beginning of their partnership, they have changed their entire range in the praline and chocolate segment to production with FAIRTRADE cocoa. Thus, the company with headquarters in Vorarlberg became the largest supplier of products with FAIRTRADE cocoa in Austria at once. The change to Fairtrade cocoa means processing over 2.000 tons of FAIRTRADE cocoa annually with more than one million euros of FAIRTRADE investment each year. Around 1.000 cocoa farming families benefit from this. These families cultivate an area of over 4.000 hectares.
Gunz guarantees their customers that the annual FAIRTRADE investment is paid for by ourselves, without any additional costs in the product price. To date, there has been no price increase for our customers due to the change to Fairtrade cocoa.
“It is a personal concern of ours that the cocoa farmers, who are unfortunately considered the weakest link in the supply chain, are fairly compensated for their hard work. We also see it as a corporate obligation that environmental sustainability and the common good in the value chain gain in importance and significance,” says Michael Temel, Managing Director of Gunz. “Our pricing and placement options combined with the huge variety of assortments contribute greatly to the FAIRTRADE purchase decision on the supermarket floors. When consumers have two comparable products to choose from, our variant with FAIRTRADE cocoa is often even cheaper than the comparison product.”
In addition to the complete range of pralines and chocolates, classic biscuits have also been changed to FAIRTRADE cocoa. They are license partner of the football champions FC Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Paris St. Germain. FAIRTRADE thus also scores points with football fans.
