Sacred Serve, the plant-based gelato brand that is committed to bettering both our bodies and our planet, proudly debuted the first-ever 100% plastic-free, fully recyclable/compostable ice cream cartons in a unique, lidless form. Now, they are taking their sustainability mission one step further as they launch a traditionally-shaped pint using the same compostable and biodegradable material. This is the first-ever ice cream pint to be 100% recyclable, 100% compostable, and 100% biodegradable. As Sacred Serve calls it: planet-based pints.
Prior to Sacred Serve’s plastic-free packaging launch, there were zero recyclable packaging solutions in the frozen category. Consumers are often deceived by the paperboard material used to make their favorite ice cream cartons, tossing it into the recycling bin with other cardboard products. But hiding inside the mainstream carton is a disturbing secret: a plastic coating that makes it unrecyclable, rendering it trash. Sacred Serve’s introduction of a fully recyclable carton in the form of an industry-standard sized pint is more than a milestone for the company: it’s a demonstration of what is possible for all ice cream and frozen dessert brands.
Founder Kailey Donewald shares, “At the heart of Sacred Serve is our mission to influence and elevate the current food system — from both a nutritional as well as a sustainability standpoint. Packaging has been a major problem for the frozen set as a whole, and we’re thrilled to introduce a solution in a readily adoptable format to help push the entire category forward. We are proud to be planet-based inside and out.” With this new packaging launch, Kailey hopes to redefine the “norm” as plastic-free.
