Gatsby Chocolate, the reduced-calorie brand created by Halo Top co-founder Doug Bouton, has unveiled candy-coated milk chocolate-style gems with three times fewer calories than M&M’s candies, according to the company.
Gatsby Gems are formulated with esterified propoxylated glycerol, a modified plant-based oil that tastes and functions like fat with fewer calories, and sweetened with a blend of allulose, erythritol and soluble corn fiber. A serving contains 70 calories and 4 grams of sugar.
“When we started Gatsby Chocolate, we noticed that there were just no other low-calorie chocolates — literally none,” said Mr. Bouton, founder and chief executive officer. “And more shockingly, even the other low-sugar chocolate brands have nearly as many calories as regular chocolate. With three times fewer calories and somehow still an incredible melt-in-your-mouth taste, our Gatsby Gems give the people what they want: the ability to eat the entire bag without the calories, the guilt or the compromise.”
Additionally, the brand added dark chocolate peanut butter cups, joining milk chocolate-style peanut butter cups that contain half the calories and a quarter of the sugar compared to the premium peanut butter cups on the market, according to the company. A serving contains 50 calories and 1 gram of sugar.
