According to the data of the Eastern Black Sea Exporters’ Association (DKİB), 1660 tons of tea was exported to 84 countries in the first quarter of the year, generating a revenue of 5 million 271 thousand 933 dollars.
Turkish tea exports in the first quarter of the year increased by 29 percent in quantity and 3 percent in value, compared to the first quarter of 2021, which amounted to 5 million 124 thousand 981 dollars in return for 1282 tons of product.
Tea was exported to Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea and Tanzania
Unlike the first 3 months of last year, tea was also sent to Cameroon, Hungary, Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, Kenya, Tanzania, Lithuania, Estonia and Finland during this period.
Ahmet Hamdi Gürdoğan, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of DKİB, said that they do not see the increase in tea exports as sufficient, and that they should evaluate the market in Russia, the USA and the United Arab Emirates, which are the world’s biggest tea importers.
Pointing to the importance of product diversity in tea, Gürdoğan stated that producing tea according to the taste of the consumer mass will reflect positively on exports.
Expressing that the increase in the number of exporting countries is a very important development, Gürdoğan stated that the admiring consumption of Turkish tea abroad gives them hope that exports will reach much higher figures in the coming years.
