SIAL Middle East will be returning to the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, 26-28 November 2012. Led by Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, 36 Turkish exhibitors will attend this year’s show for Turkey takes part in this important event as a national participation.

With the inaugural SIAL Middle East being recorded as the argest and best attended business event aunched in Abu Dhabi in 2010, expectations were high for the 2nd edition last year. As the doors closed on SIAL Middle East in November 20 exhibitors reported that they had signed at east US$350,000,000 worth of contracts whilst organizers reported a 34% increase in attendees.
Turkey was the national country of honor in last year’s show. The country is participating as a national pavilion this year with around 36 companies. As food consumption continues to grow coupled with growing consumer preferences toward processed and packaged convenience foods, there ane substantial opportunities for manufacturing companies and investors to establish and expand operations in the region, according to Dr. Hasshim Hussein, Head of UNIDO ITPO Bahrain.

GCC states already import 90% of theirfood requirements and with the population due to grow by 10 million by 2020, food consumption is currenty growing at a Compound Annua Growth Rate (CAGR) of 4.6%.
Saudi Arabia
Food consumption is projected to grow at CAGR of 4.2% over 2011 -15 to 32.9 milion tons.
UAE
Food consumption is projected to grow at CAGR of 54% over 2011-15 to 9.7 milion tons. Land suitable for cultivation in the UAE is just 0.8%.
Qatar
Food consumption is projected to grow at CAGR of 6.3% over 2011 -15 to 1.9 milion tons. Qatar currently meets 90% of its food requirement through imports.
Oman
Food consumption is projected to grow at CAGR of 5.3% over 2011 -15 to 3.2 milion tons, 0.1% of land is arable.
Kuwait
Food consumption is projected to grow at CAGR of 4.1 % over 2011 -15 to 2.7 milion tons. Kuwait imports around 98% of its total food requirement,
Bahrain
Food consumption is projected to grow at CAGR of 5.0% over 2011 -15 to 814,000 tons in 2015.
